Collectors / Re: How Rare is BABY1?
July 22, 2002, 10:15:30 AM
It's not rare, or at least not yet ;)

I don't know how many copies got pressed. Some people say 700, others up to 900. Fact is that a lot of people have seen huge boxes full of them everywhere. Personally I've seen 200 copies of them already in boxes here in The Netherlands, then someone can't tell me that there are only 800 for instance in the world since that would mean that the rest of the world only has 600 copies left... I don't know how many there were, but for the moment it's not rare anyway. Especially since XL-Recordings sold them themselves as well for a very low price; only four Pounds Sterling.

What I've heard is that Liam Howlett got these BABY1 promotional white labels pressed himself and XL-Recordings only did the promotion and distribution for him really. Paying attention on the completely different catalogue number than usual, this could be true. And at the same time it makes me wonder about those BITCH1 (that is the catalogue number, right? doing this by heart so...) white labels which contained the Slacker Mix of Smack My Bitch Up. Have those been given out by Liam Howlett himself too maybe? I'm curious what others think of that...

I would have tried selling it for 30 Pounds Sterling. What you ask for it is just too much at the moment since I've seen more copies coming by at shops for less. I'm afraid that you won't be able to sell it. I would try a lower amount and let the bidders drive up the price themselves. Good luck with your auction!

Hard to say. Depends on what people want to spend on it really ;p I would just try to sell it at eBay and see what it comes up with there, that's the best advice I can give you I'm afraid. Sorry.

You could be right, I can't tell. I'm not English from origin, so I might not see the fun in certain things due to the fact that our languages are different. I don't know any other real reason. Ah well...

Sorry Arie, it has to be said: you're a very nice guy, but a bit of a nerd. Please feel free to respond by setting out a well structured argument discussing basic premises in repsonse to my (no doubt unfounded) claim, leading a a logical conclusion that I am indeed a twat.
Thankyou.

I don't know what your problem is. If you read all my postings in this thread I don't see anything which I can have said wrong. I give the topic poster a proper reply and all. If you have something personal against me then I'm curious what it is...

Quite off topic, but that's all Ekko's fault hehe ;) but you shouldn't drink too much since it's bad for your health. Personally I hardly drink and I quite smoking on New Year's Eve last year and haven't toucvhed a cigaret since - yes, I'm proud of myself! :)

They're not that hard to find really and not that rare either. But I would always advice to ask the right questions in advance. Still you will probably have to pay between 60 and 100 Pounds Sterling for it unless you manage to find it cheaper of course.

Also, there is not one official What Evil Lurks. What I mean is that What Evil Lurks has been released officially on two different labels. One is a release on XL-Recordings, the other a flipped release (A-side and B-side switched) called Android on Torso Dance Records.

What Evil Lurks is defenitely not Prodigy's best work, but for a true fan, collector, et cetera it's a nice addition to their music collection. If you only want to hear the tracks once or twice you would be better off with a cheaper whitelabel, a bootleg or MP3 files. The quality will be less then, but at least you can listen to them.

Good luck!

Arie was stuck at his place with his girlfriend's parents, that's why he wasn't here ;p But to answer the question, the normal Intercord release titled Wind It Up is the same as the UK release. The version which is titled Wind It Up (US-Remixes) contains four versions of Wind It Up, but lacks the Bonus Beats version.

I don't like questions to which I don't know the answers, so I checked it out for you hehe ;) Columbia is a trademark of Sony Music. Columbia releases mainly in Austria.

Columbia maybe? Hehehe ;p I don't really know to be honest. I haven't seen that many Columbia releases around. My guess would be the USA, but it's only a guess and I'm far from sure really. Very good question...

P.S.
You've got mail Kimmo ;)

Thank you for the scans. Looking at the back sleeve I would say it's quite a good bootleg - yes, it is a fake item. The letters of the titles are different than all others I have seen though first of all. Besides that the XL-Recordings logo is wrong. The disc itself looks fake from the start, but of course that doesn't mean a thing. The star on the disc or whatever it is supposed to be as well as the Prodigy logo don't seem to be right. Then there is the front sleeve of which you said that it lacked the inside pictures. The text on the back doesn't match with the text on the back sleeve; the labels are different first of all and again I'm not sure about the font and size of the letters. All in all I would say that it's a fake release, a bootleg.
