"Spitfire" is the sixteenth single by The Prodigy and the third and final single released in support of their 2004 album Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned, where it appears as the opening track. Originally scheduled for release on April 1, 2005, the single was delayed, with the limited edition 12" vinyl eventually hitting stores on April 4, a digital download via iTunes on April 5, and a CD single released on April 11. Different formats featured unique cover art and tracklists.

The single includes three tracks: an updated version of "Spitfire" by Liam Howlett, along with two remixes — one by Essex drum and bass duo Nightbreed and another by London breaks producer Future Funk Squad. The Nightbreed Remix enjoyed a lasting legacy: Liam later blended it with "Wake Up Call" to create "Wake The Fuck Up" in 2005, which evolved into the live track "Spitfast" in 2012, and elements from both were eventually incorporated into "Roadblox" in 2015.

Vocals on "Spitfire" feature Juliette Lewis and Natalie Appleton (Liam Howlett’s wife) — Appleton sings the intro, while Lewis performs alongside Maxim in the main part of the track.

Despite not charting on the all-genre UK Singles Chart, "Spitfire" reached number one on the UK Dance Chart. It also found success beyond the charts, being featured in soundtracks for The Sopranos, Gotham, Freddy vs. Jason, House of Wax, and The Unborn. The track was also used as the entrance theme for boxer George Groves, and once served as the intro song for all Calgary Flames home games in the NHL.
