The Prodigy announce new single 'Nasty Nasty' for January release

Band tease multiple artwork choices for first new material in six years

The Prodigy are to release new single ‘Nasty Nasty’ in January, the band’s first new song since 2009’s album ‘Invaders Must Die’.

The band teased six different alternative versions for the single’s artwork on their Instagram page, but it’s not known which if any of the sleeves is the finished design. The precise release date of the single hasn't been revealed, but the sixth posting stated: “Single 1, Jan the …..”

The song is one of six known track names for The Prodigy's as-yet-untitled sixth album, which is due out in February, according to a Q interview with Liam Howlett in October. Howlett stated ‘Nasty Nasty’ featured “some trippy Winston Churchill vibe in the middle”. It features lead vocals by Keith Flint.

Other songs known to feature on the album include ‘Beyond The Death Ray’, ‘Get Your Fight On’ and ‘Wall Of Death’. Another confirmed album track, ‘Rockweiler’, has featured regularly in the band’s set since it was first played at Rock Am Ring in 2013. Footage of ‘Rockweiler’ from The Prodigy’s headline performance at Sonisphere in July 2014 can be seen below.

The only confirmed guests on the new album are Sleaford Mods, who feature on ‘Ibiza’. Other new songs The Prodigy have played live on tour since 2011 include ‘AWOL’, ‘Jetfighter’, ‘The Day’ and ‘Dogbite’, but it isn’t known if any of those will feature. Howlett described the overall sound of the new album as “pure violent energy” and a reaction to how “formula-based” dance music had turned into “all that DJ bollocks and tutorials on YouTube shit.”

In 2012, Howlett announced the album would be called ‘How To Steal A Jetfighter’, but he has since stated that it will have a different title. Despite initially vowing the title would be revealed “before Christmas”, it remains unknown. Since third album ‘The Fat Of The Land’ was released in 1997, The Prodigy have only released ‘Always Outnumbered Never Outgunned’ in 2004 and ‘Invaders Must Die’ in 2009.

The Prodigy’s only confirmed UK show is on June 12, when they co-headline the opening night of Isle Of Wight Festival with The Black Keys. Fleetwood Mac headline on June 14, with the Saturday headliners yet to be announced. Other artists playing the festival include Paolo Nutini, Pharrell Williams, You Me At Six, Jessie Ware, First Aid Kit, Kool And The Gang, Kodaline and The Struts.
