It’s hard to fathom that The Prodigy have been with us for almost 20 years now. Harder still, that it’s been more than a decade since their zeitgeist-defining (or perhaps defying) The Fat Of The Land. There’s been much public acrimony and squabbling since, but now that Liam Howlett, Keith Flint and Maxim Reality have sorted out their problems and gone back to work, it’s like they’ve never ever been away (first cut ‘Omen’ has already gone No 1 in Canada, of all places).

They’ve had a little help from their friends. Longterm Prodigy fan Dave Grohl provides some rocking beats on ‘Run For The Wolves’ and ‘Omen’ was co-produced with Does It Offend You, Yeah? frontman James Rushent.

Featuring 40 minutes of hardcore aural aggression,Invaders Must Die is the sound of a band mixing up genres, contorting their past demons and supercharging the future. There are eleven tracks here, but really the album is best heard the whole way through. It sounds like all the best moments from their previous four albums reinvented and rewired for the Noughties. There’s nothing as immediate as the classic ‘Firestarter’, but tracks like ‘Stand Up’ are electrifying in a different way. Ultimately, if you’re into feral, fucked-up dance music, you need look no further.
