Title: The Prodigy songs you don't like
Post by: Breathe_with_me on November 12, 2001, 09:10:40 PM
Please don't say stuff like "I love everything that Liam ever touched, how could I not love all of his work?".

I guess that you don't like all of the prodigy stuff... I'm not saying that there is a song you hate, but that there is a song that is your least favorite one...

OK, I'll start... I really don't like Out of Space, I'm not much into Experience.

Hoho, you really don't like it...

But Crazyman was after Experience, wasn't it? Pandemonium was very cool, yepyep.

I don't like -please don't freak out on me- Firestarter.
It's harmless. I don't like the vocals, I don't like that shitty drumloop that even I have here on my computer, I don't like that silly repeating Breeder's sample and I don't like all the fx in it.
I really don't get where exactly this track kixx ass, I guess at least half of the fuzz was just about the vocs, can't imagine why else.
And it's not that I don't like Keith singing on the tracks since then, I loved Serial Thrilla for example.
However.

Greetings,
Ekko

ok, in my humble opinion 8) out of space and firestarter are one of the outstanding prodigy tracks.I agree with the guy who said that not everything that Liam has made is good but almost everything!! :D
the worst tracks for me are:we gonna rock(logically, we can't blame on him),ruff in the jungle bizness and serial thrilla but i'm not saying that I hate them...
the best for me are:no good, out of space, breathe, smack my bitch up,everybody...,their law, charly alley cat, narayan and full throttle among others.
otherwise, there are several remixes made by other artists to the prodigy that are a failure-dj hype's ,genaside II's.
I would also like to remark liam's remix of front 242's religion (trance u down mix), this remix is incredible!!

No good -  don't like it either, I can totally stand it, but it does not have a cool vibe I think.
Plus: All the girls love that track

I like all tunes, but yes, some better than others of course.

I would say that I like Weather Experience (Top Buzz Remix) less than other tracks. I like the piano parts a lot, but the beats in between just don't do the trick of making this a great tune. The version on The Prodigy Experience though kicks in I think. I like it a lot.

Firestarter isn't one of their best tunes either, I must agree. Breathe is better in my humble opinion. Serial Thrilla sounds good, but I would classify it like Firestarter and Fuel My Fire - maybe I'm not that 'rockish'...

Something which everyone seems to forget is the American remixes of tracks like Out Of Space and Wind It Up. The first mentioned is a good track. The Techno Underworld Remix does the trick for me and I think I like it better than the original, but both are nice. The Millenium and Celestial Bodies Remixes are way less. The same goes for all the American remixes of Wind It Up, although some of those are better than others of course.

Every week or maybe every month I have a few tunes which I listen to more than to others. Charly, Jericho, Break & Enter, Funky Shit just to mention a few are all high on my list of most listened to tunes. My fianc

QuoteI also dont like Diesel power so much...
I personally like Diesel Power quite a lot. It has this slow, but ongoing rhythm and rhyme which makes this a very nice tune in my humble opinion. Of course opinions may vary from person to person. I like the Dirtchamber Remix of Diesel Power less though.

IMO tunes that kick ass: Their Law, Poison, Narayan, Funky Shit just to mention few. I didn't like the Experience stuff first but now I've changed my opinion about it. Out of space and Fire are just grrreat.  ;D

I have to say that it's hard to find crappy tunes. But here's few that I don't like at the moment: Molotov Bitch, Scienide, Rip up the soundsystem.  ::)

What makes Prodigy different from other bands is the extremely high quality of releases. It's just amazing, 3 albums, and lots of singles all overally so high quality that no other band could do it IMO. There are a lot of bands that can make one or two very good singles or one great album, but three albums, no way.

Yeah, that's the main-point, I think you're absolutely right there, it's the vast amount of releases that -even if not highest Prodigy-standart- are on a amazing level, qualitywise.

And I have to agree here too:
Poison, Narayan, Funky Shit and Break & Enter are the favourites of my favourite bunch of Prodgetracks.

3 Kilos
Rip Up The Sound System

Yep, These 3 songs annoy me to hell!

Title: Re: The Prodigy songs you don't like
Post by: Ekko on November 16, 2001, 07:33:43 AM
Aiiii
what is wrong with 3 Kilos??
It's the Prodigy-party-session track itself, everybody is freaking out when it plays...

And The Trick, it's nice, not? Construction-style like Molotov Bitch.

But, I know, every taste is different

P.S.: I very much loved the sweet synth-line in that Jesus Jones rmx, anyone else in here who did? Maybe?
Title: Re: The Prodigy songs you don't like
Post by: Arie on November 16, 2001, 10:03:16 AM
The Trick is kind of like a follow up to Molotov Bitch, but then again obviously different. I prefer Molotov Bitch, but The Trick is good too. I don't think it's a bad tune at all. The same goes for 3 Kilos. Now that's what I call a good track. It remembers me of the A-Team soundtrack, anyone else who thinks that too? It has a good style. Wouldn't want to hear a whole album like that, but that goes for every tune of course. I like it a lot.

Rip Up The Sound System is less, yes. I had forgotten about this track for a second. It's okay, but not great. It's no wonder that they cut it off the Everybody In The Place single, but I wonder why they kept it on the vinyl? Well, for as far as I know the story is something like this: they released the 5-track, but XL normally doesn't do 5-tracks, so they took it back replacing it with the 4-track. But why would they do that if they would really like the tune? Any ideas anyone? Also, if you look at The Prodigy Experience: Expanded, which is a great release by the way although it still doesn't offer anything new..., you will see that RUTSS is missing on there as well. Maybe for a reason...?

Post by: antz on November 16, 2001, 02:11:42 PM
Its not worth asking me why I hate 3Kilos (I just do) although its the only album track I hate.

I don't like The Trick because of the piono riff & its just a simple track with simple beats...

Rip Up The... I hate cos of the vocals (the bits with Simone & the sampled ones...)
Title: Re: The Prodigy songs you don't like
Post by: Ekko on November 16, 2001, 07:03:08 PM
Yeah, you're right, it doesn't do much asking why anyone doesn't like a track, but I'd like to shortly explain why I like The Trick, because this time it is little different.

The Pianoriff isn't too clever, right, the beats are okay, nothing earth shattering but they just *sound* good in my ears, I like the *sound* of the track.
Same for Molotov Bitch, it's not that musical masterpiece but good engineered anyway, it shows the tight and neat production work of Mr. H. (or Mr. M.)

definitelty I don't agree with you arie, expanded is a load of shit! and why do I say this so bravely, you might wonder... 8) 8)it's just because they (xl or someone) didn't introduce anything new on it,ok, they remark that the songs have been remastered.. so what? I can't see the point there, the cd2 does not offer anything innovating.the facts are these:
they could have included at least one track from the what evil lurks e.p. ever on cd, and they lost the chance, they did not include on cd2 a track previously released only on vinyl (for instance, fire (burning version), they chose the edit which is already available on the cd single)
rip up the sound system should have been also included there, why not? it's a track which personaly I like (it's sounds similar to crazy man) ans it has never been released on cd except for a few weeks in early 92.
all the u.s remixes are forgotten (well, most of them do not deserve to be there anyway) .
so, you can guess how much I despise that release that I decided not to buy expanded, they have not been clever cause if they would have included something original (like those tracks I mentioned above) I would have bought it as fast as fuck.
thanks for your attention :P
ps.-I've realized that no one has mentioned rock 'n' roll in this forum yet!! do you think that liam intended to release that track sometime or just he used it as a live track and no more???? ???

That's what I wrote as well, the release doesn't offer anything new, but still these two silver discs offer a lot of great Prodigy tracks, all in one handy package.

Quotethe facts are these:

I've said it before and I will say it again, I'm not for releasing any What Evil Lurks tracks again in any way. And Xl-Recordings seems to agree with my point of view. The Burning Version of Fire is available on CD, just not on a Prodigy-only release.

I'm not the biggest fan in the world of RUTSS, but it would have been nice to have it on there indeed. However, like I wrote before they didn't cut it from EITP for no reason. They probably had a reason as well not to put it on Expanded.

Quoteall the u.s remixes are forgotten (well, most of them do not deserve to be there anyway) .
Almost all U.S. remixes are less then the original tunes and I think it's good that they didn't put those on Expanded.

Quoteso, you can guess how much I despise that release that I decided not to buy expanded, they have not been clever cause if they would have included something original (like those tracks I mentioned above) I would have bought it as fast as fuck.
The release offers nothing new, but is still a nice item. If you already own all tracks and if that is the only reason to buy it, then don't buy it. If you collect all this like me, then it's another item for the collection which is always nice ;) Also, if you just want to have all tunes on one handy release, buy it.

Quoteps.-I've realized that no one has mentioned rock 'n' roll in this forum yet!! do you think that liam intended to release that track sometime or just he used it as a live track and no more???? ???
Rock 'n' Roll was meant as a live track. I don't think that it would be so great as a studio recording as it would be live. A track like Gabba is good as well, but also only live. It has that certain energy feel over it when performed live, I think it would lack that when it would be a studio recording.

I understand your point of view because you want to collect all the items possible, I like also collecting prodigy items but I'm more focused only in the tunes :).
you said that fire burning vewrsion is already available on cd, where?? note that I only refer to official releases, I don't like bootlegs (I only have one-electronic punks, released 1996).
maybe the only us remix that would have deserved to be included on expanded is charly-beltram says mix, but it's just my opinion.

It's available on a Move The House compilation and is indeed official. Check out my web site for all available Prodigy tracks on official releases and where to find them => www.the-prodigy.org

You mention a Electronic Punks bootleg, can you tell more about that?

Back to the original question... I've never liked Diesel Power. It has good beats, but I've never been into rap that much. Also I don't like almost any of the mixes of Everybody In The Place. The first one (on the What Evil Lurks EP) is the best IMHO. And remixes (by other than Mr. H.) are almost never as good as the originals.

People who never bought any older work by Prodigy might like this item indeed since it gives them a chance to listen to their older work for little money compared to what they would have to pay for all the singles separately. It gives them a chance to hear how Prodigy 'grew' to what they are today. The music on there is a piece of history really :)

Here we go again: Juge, I still cant log in. Any ideas?

The Firestarter Issue: I first heard the track on the radio and you know why? Cause some nut that works in the Emergency Room called the radio and told them that if they dont play firestarter again, he's going to go absolutely mad. So, as I really wanted to hear the track (cause back then they also went under the bloody ground for a while) I was eagerly waiting for it to start. When I listened to it,recorded it I was really dissapointed. Dont know why, really. Probably because it didnt seem very much to me. It's a simple track. One drumloop, vocals, distortion and a sample. I mean, it just had very few elements that I could admire @ that time. Afterwards, when I started to listen to it more often I discovered something far more deeper. It has a soul, it's so fucking raw & dirty, it's so dirty that they should of release it with a little bag of dust & dirt that would go with the CD/Vinyl. Now I love the track (I like the Empirion Mix as well)

The Experience Expanded Issue: I think that XL had very little to do with the re-release (or the remastered version,as you wish) cause It's a U.S. release basically. Did it even come out in Europe?

The best tracks Issue: Hard to say, really. Well,@ the moment those would be: No Good, Mindfields, Charly, Break & Enter,3 Kilos (unfuckingbelievable),Poison,Funky Shit...
ah screw it,the list would be to long anyway...

The least favourite ones:

Full Throttle,Charly (Trip in tho the D&B Version) - really fucked up beats (the rhythm is great but the bass just doesnt fit in),Jericho (I like the remix 10 times more),Climbatize (I gues this one was a TRIP too (and acid one),G force part I (I think this one is the worst).

P.S. I'm really sorry that Leeroy left. It's just a tragedy. I couldnt believe it when I read it in the newspapers. I thought it was a rumor @ first...If I was Liam or Keith or Maxim I would probably chain Leeroy to a chair or something and just put him on stage so everyone can see him. He wouldnt have to dance or anything. He would just have to show up. It's just isnt the same without him. Everyone is leaving their bands and I'm just sick of it. Does anyone think about the fans?? I mean c'mon: Darren Emerson left Underworld, Zach left Rage Against the Machine and the only person I admired in the whole Limp Bizkit shit (Wes Borland) also left the god damn band (cant say that I blaim him really, cause I bet Fred Durst is a fagget).  Who else? hm...ah yes, the Chemical's have gone mad also: It Began In Afrika? Who give's a shit!

P.S.2. sorry If I went a little over the line here.

My least favorite prodigy songs are weather experience and 3 kilos....oh and maybe climbatize. I seriousely dont understand how come most people like it soo much.

the best prodigy tracks are SMBU, serial thrilla, rat poison, one man army, firestarter, voodoo people, no good and of course BREATHE!!! Breathe is the best song!

whoa...interesting!
i thought Weather Experience was one of the best trax on Experience and Climbatize one of the best of all...
anyway...
i didn't like the build up to the most of the songs on Jilted
Those trancy one step beats were way too overused and is my only main criticy( is there such a word? ) on their work ever...or is it? like my favourute band i am also one big contradiction :P
