The Prodigy's new album The Fat Of The Land has made a triumphant impression on charts around the world. The album is currently NUMBER ONE in 22 countries, including an almost unprecedented week one entry at NUMBER ONE in America.

Only 8 UK acts have ever gone straight into the American album charts at Number One - they are The Beatles, Eric Clapton, Elton John, Pink Floyd, Def Leppard, Depeche Mode, Bush and The Prodigy. Although sales on this scaleare difficult to estimate accurately, it seems likely that TheFat Of The Land has sold in excess of 3,000,000 copies overthe last 7 days. The album sold 385,000 copies in the UK inits first week of release, which makes it the fastest-selling album of all time in the UK.

The sheer scale of this success is particularly remarkable given the nature of the Prodigy's record deal. The Prodigy are signed to XL Recordings, a 100% independent record label, for the world. XL have hand-picked licences and distributors for practically every record-releasing country in the world (including Maverick in the US and intercord in Germany) - and every stage of the world wide A&R, art  working, manufacturing and promotional process has been overseen from the label's offices in South West London. Despite the daunting time constraints (5 weeks from delivery of the masters to world wide simultaneous release), The Fat Of The Land is undoubtedly the most successful record ever released by a fully independent record label.
